The residents are the greatest strength of our program. They are brilliant, passionate, and fun. They are a constant inspiration for me, the other faculty, and each other.

Michelle Bell, MD, Adult Neurology Program Director

Columbia residents and faculty are really one big family. We support each other. We challenge each other. We learn together. Working with the residents is absolutely the best part of my job.

Inna Kleyman, MD, Adult Neurology Associate Program Director

From the Program Director

The Neurological Institute of New York was founded over a century ago as the nation’s first institution devoted to the study and care of patients with neurological illness.  Education has always been a core mission of the Neurological Institute of New York. The Neurology Residency Program at Columbia was established in 1948 and, since that time, has been one of the premier neurology training programs in the country.

As the leaders of this program, we are committed to:

  • Creating a work environment that is diverse, inclusive, and promotes the wellness and success of all residents
  • Utilizing innovative educational strategies to provide the highest caliber of clinical training for residents in neurology, in keeping with the Program’s long tradition of academic excellence
  • Producing graduates who are exceptional neurologists, clinical investigators, educators, neuroscientists, and leaders
