Initiative for Columbia Ataxia and Tremor (ICAT)
Mission
Initiative for Columbia Ataxia and Tremor (ICAT) is a collaborative effort between physicians, scientists, and engineers to advance understanding and treatment of ataxia and tremor.
Our Goals
Ataxia (imbalance) and tremor (shaking) are two disabling neurological problems that are produced by dysfunction in the cerebellum. Both ataxia and tremor have diverse causes, and treatment options are limited. In order to advance the development of new treatments for these disorders, the Initiative for Columbia Ataxia and Tremor has assembled a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, engineers, and other health care professionals to work together, for the first time, to further our knowledge of the cerebellum and develop novel therapies for ataxia and tremor.
Through this collaborative approach, we aim to rapidly turn laboratory discoveries and technological advances into clinical applications, to more effectively help people living with ataxia and tremor. Since every patient with ataxia or tremor is unique, an ultimate goal of ICAT is diagnostic and treatment precision, whereby our research efforts and treatment plans are tailored to each individual.
