Overview
Srinath Ramaswamy, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease. He specializes in the management of vascular neurological conditions, with specific clinical and research interests in stroke in the young, cryptogenic stroke, and cerebral small vessel disease. Dr. Ramaswamy completed initial training in India, obtaining his medical degree (MBBS) followed by postgraduate residency (MD) in internal medicine. He then completed neurology residency at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where he was elected chief resident. He completed a vascular neurology clinical fellowship at the Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital program and continued at Columbia University for an additional year of research training under the National Institute of Health StrokeNet training program.
He conducts clinical research and has published manuscripts in vascular neurology. He is also passionate about quality improvement and advancing systems of care for emergency stroke treatments at the CUMC/NYP Comprehensive Stroke Center. Dr. Ramaswamy is board-certified in general neurology and vascular neurology. He holds a certification for the use of Transcranial Doppler and Carotid Ultrasound in his clinical practice (RPNI, Registered Physician in Neurovascular Interpretation). He is a member of the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Neurology.

Research
Dr. Ramaswamy’s research focuses on cerebral small vessel disease and stroke in the young, specifically, sub-groups such as pregnancy-postpartum state and non-atherosclerotic vasculopathies, including Moyamoya disease and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. He is also interested in and collaborates on cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of clinical correlations of the imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease and the use of predictive modeling to identify individuals with small vessel disease. He is involved in multicenter national-level trials as a primary or sub-site investigator at Columbia University.
