FDA Proposes Putting Nutrition Info on the Front of Food Packages

Columbia’s Nutrition Epidemiologist Yian Gu, MD, MS, PhD commented on the FDA’s recent proposal to place nutrition labels on the front of the food packages. This new rule would make it easier for people to see the nutritional information. “I think people want to know this information to help them make good decisions,” said Dr. Yian Gu. This proposal aims to decrease the rise in diet-related chronic diseases. “These diseases are not coming from nowhere,” commented Dr. Yian Gu. “If people are not aware of the science behind all of this nutrition, they will not pay attention to it.”[read more]
