Joshua Willey, MD, Medical Director of the NYP-Columbia Comprehensive Stroke Center, explains about brain aneurysms. They are fairly common but often aren’t diagnosed unless a person undergoes one of several imaging tests. “The significant majority of aneurysms, at least in the United States, are found because people have an MRI [magnetic resonance imaging] or an MRA [magnetic resonance angiography] test,” says Dr. Willey. “Oftentimes, our patients who have headaches, or memory loss, or other neurological symptoms come in, we do a scan, and we happen to find the aneurysm.” Dr. Willey also talks about different types of aneurysms, their symptoms, who may be at a higher risk of developing them, and how to minimize those risk factors. [read more]
