Columbia Neurologists Lead Encephalitis Awareness Efforts

October 3, 2025

On September 26, Dr. Kiran Thakur and Dr. Sarah Wesley co-chaired the My Brain & Medicine: Encephalitis Survivors and Caregivers Day, a half-day program held at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, in partnership with Encephalitis International. The event brought together medical experts, survivors, and caregivers (pictured below) to explore clinical, rehabilitative, and personal perspectives on encephalitis.

Continuing the conversation this week, Dr. Thakur spoke with Dr. Ava Easton, Chief Executive of Encephalitis International, on the Neurology® Podcast to discuss the World Health Organization’s new technical brief, Encephalitis: Global Threats, Trends, and Public Health Implications.

Together, these efforts underscore Columbia’s leadership in advancing research, clinical care, and community engagement around encephalitis.
