Martin Picard, PhD, Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine, speaks about the connection between stress and our mitochondria’s health. Research shows that prolonged psychological stress continues to increase in our society and that cumulatively it has a negative effect on our health and accelerates aging. Stress causes inflammation that may then harm our mitochondria’s healthy function and lead to various changes in our bodies. “Hair colour is one of the most futile, dispensable features of our bodies,” says Dr. Picard. “If the body runs out of energy, it makes sense that it would ‘de-prioritize’ making pigment for hairs.”[read more]
