We are delighted to share that two members of our Neurology faculty were honored at the recent Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons graduation ceremony. Laura Lennihan, MD, Professor Emerita of Neurology at CUMC and a valued, longstanding member of our department, received the Distinguished Service Award in Clinical Sciences. This prestigious honor recognizes Dr. Lennihan’s extraordinary service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the college and our department over many years, as well as her lasting impact on generations of students, trainees, and colleagues. And Hemali Phatnani, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neurological Sciences (in Neurology), received the Doctor Harold and Golden Lamport Research Award in Clinical Sciences, recognizing her pioneering research on gene regulation and cell-cell interactions in ALS. Dr. Phatnani leads the Center for Genomics of Neurodegenerative Disease at the New York Genome Center and holds joint appointments at Columbia, where her work is advancing understanding of ALS disease mechanisms and driving new approaches to translational neuroscience. Congratulations to both exceptional colleagues on their well-deserved recognition!
