Donald Glover’s Stroke Highlights a Troubling Trend for Young People

Joshua Willey, MD, Medical Director of the NYP-Columbia Comprehensive Stroke Center, speaks about stroke increasingly affecting younger people. In 2024, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a 15% rise in stroke prevalence among younger adults, aged 18 to 44. Donald Glover, a 42-year-old performer, shared that he suffered a stroke last year while he was on tour.
“We are definitely seeing more young people coming in with strokes,” says Dr. Willey (who didn’t treat Glover). “But they often come delayed to the hospital because the last thing on their mind is that they’re having a stroke.” [read more]
